KIDz having fun - "social kick" - or geez, we've got some work to do!

Responded Jul 22, 2008 04:12PM

Bummer. When you have to keep your face in the water while kicking, you can't socialize!

The good old days.

Lots of fun.

Kids, come on over it's time to practice "kickboard hurling". This is skill you'll need when you start high school....

To me it says, omigosh, look how far they've come this summer!! It's really still organized "crazy", but some of these kids are going to keep going! HURRAY!!! They loved it!

Responded Jul 23, 2008 01:24AM

Exactly Deb. Some of these kids ARE going to keep going. This is only the beginning... so technique, no technique, fast, slow, all that matters is that they're having enough fun to keep going.

This just makes me so glad that I normally have the lane to myself these days when I practice. I remember swimming in these crowded circles for years. It was fun, but you could always count on getting splashed in the face or getting a swift breaststroke kick to the side. Ugh!

Today, this picture makes me wish I was back home swimming with my team. Last night (after waiting 20 minutes for a lane), I had to share a lane at the Community Center with some teenage girls who were doing more standing around than swimming and then later with a rather large woman who took up most of the lane. I actually felt guilty swimming fast sets, like I was annoying people or something. But I did manage to do most of that recently posted IM workout which was fun.

As a swimming parent, it means 15 minutes of peace to me. We have three kids on Talbot Swim Club this summer. Last night was our last home meet and our daughter qualified for champs in two events! (Can you tell I'm a proud papa?)
