Swimming Question of the Week - November 25, 2009
What's on your playlist when you swim -- not for when you're sitting around getting ready to swim, but when you're actually swimming? These would be tunes for your swimP3 or the pool's stereo system.

Don't get scared... but I do enjoy being a bit intense when I swim... so:
You know... just fun happy stuff. ;) |

Oh yeah Glenn, but (IMHO) I'd put Megadeth at the top... My list when competing:
When just walking to the pool, whatever's on my MP3, currently Flotsam and Jetsam... |

When actually swimming (just read the question!), err... nothing, just the bubbles in my ears! |

Here's what I have in my waterproof iPod Shuffle right now - I let it roll through in a particular order. When I get sick of it, I put a different mix on there. Always searching for drumbeat dance type music - lots of instrumentals. Wish there was more Nike mixes, would be nice if they had one for swimming specifically. The music is really best for long swims MSTRKRFT - Bounce EP - vuvuvu is great for schvimbad!

Does your coach constantly firing you up to go faster count as playlist? It's pretty amusing sometimes and rather fun and happy stuff ;-) |

It seems metal works for heavy workouts and dance for long and regular tempo ones. |

@Buddyk, hi, are you using one of these: http://www.swimman.com/main.html
Does anyone of you guys use this mp3 player? |

Michal - yep, I am using the one from swimman.com. He waterproofs the shuffle - maybe filled with epoxy or a plastic bag or something? It really works well, and plugs right into iTunes - it's the best of the one's I have tried so far. The headphones are incredibly good - really good bass and they fit in the ear really well and don't fall out, and are comfortable. Totally the way to go. The headphone cords are cut to perfect length, the earphones don't add much friction in the water - and for long swims I absolutely love it. I just joined tri-club this year, my first time taking any swim training, and it's not as good for tri-club workouts, but I still do use it at tri-club, but I am always thinking too much when I swim at tri-club - drills and sprints and short stuff, so I always just pop one out when I finish a swim set to see if anyone is saying anything to me. Still nice to have there, but when I am on my own going for a 1km swim - that's where the music really is valuable to me - I just trip out to the tunes, relax and swim hard. |
We are a group of swimmers who swim really fast, and like to help others learn how to reach their competitive potential in the area of professional swimming.
