Online Video Access Survey

Posted by Glenn Mills on May 21, 2010 09:43AM (2,098 views)

We recently started a service that allows you to rent several of our premium DVDs, through YouTube, for immediate online viewing.   Our hope was that this service would allow our customers...especially those who swim outside the USA...to have easy access to our DVDs.

This is a relatively new service for YouTube, and they've chosen to start it only in the U.S.  So...we're still searching for a way to give ALL swimmers (not just those who live in the USA) the same access to our premium DVDs.   You can help us in the search by participating in a brief survey.

We'd like for you to nominate ONE DVD... the one you'd most like to have unlimited access to, for a one-time fee, on our website.  Keep in mind that you'll need good bandwidth in order to take advantage of this kind of service, and that you'll be able to view the content only on your computer.    We will continue to make our premium videos available on DVD, but with online access you can avoid shipping costs and waiting time to receive your video.

For now, please help us by selecting which video you'd most like immediate, unlimited access to.  Be a part of the process, and let's help move the sport forward.  Our goal is to serve the entire global swimming community.

Hi Glenn,
it's really good idea to start online video access.
Out of your DVDs, I would select:
Butterfly with Misty Hyman

Looking forward to trying this service.

I hope the service will be available in Europe soon.
I'm certainly in for a test.
Keep up the good work

Thanks everyone. Hope you're voting too, cause I'm probably going to base the text on those results. :)

I teach a lot of adults and this tool is very helpful, thanks for coming up with this idea!

Thanks for this great idea,

I would Select Freestyle with lezak

It was really hard to make my choice ! And the majority voted for the DVD I've bought. So sad !

Responded May 26, 2010 10:37AM

It is really difficult to vote. I would really want to preview a video before I voted. But, I think the idea is great.

Responded May 26, 2010 11:05AM

To preview any of the videos, go to the products section and click on any of them. A trailer for each video is provided on each page.

Awesome idea, Glenn!!! Keep on pushing the envelope! I live in Kenya and this would be a great service.

Online for me is a great idea. We're living in Europe and my kids swim but with the language barriers here they do not receive enough of the verbal coaching in technique to help them improve even more. Being able to pull down a video and have them watch it again and again can help fill some of the gaps created because they don't understand everything the coach is saying.

Looking at the results, my choice of Scott Tucker's straight arm freestyle isn't a favorite but I think he was one of the first swimmers to really master this way of freestyle. I met him way back at a meet and was able to hang out and talk about his opinions on straight arm freestyle (and swimming in general). Think this DVD would help a lot of people to understand the benefit (and disadvantages) of straight arm freestyle.

when will the results be final?

The online Rent is a great idea, but the usual "USA only" is a letdown, damn it.
More that pay a one-time fees to see a DVD online forever I'd like to see a monthly fees to have access at the entire DVD library and/or at least a section, for examples only the freestyle DVD.
Pay around $60 dollar for a single DVD with shipping in Europe is a bit expensive and a lot of people maybe give up, but IMHO pay $15 for online-only DVD quality view can make a big difference, ask much more for online-only view at the end of day isn't that great deal, yes you get instant access to the DVD but the online-only is a bit limited (you need a internet connect, a good bandwith every time you want to see it)

I can pretty much tell you, unlimited access won't be $15. Subscription based systems are costly to install and monitor. We're a small company who gives content freely... we're doing our best to offer options for the content that makes us income to give the free content away. If, at the end of the day, it doesn't seem like a good value to you, the $60 with shipping DVD option is always available. Or, suggest a distributor in your country that we can ship the DVDs to for distribution. This would at least save you money in shipping costs.

Responded May 31, 2010 01:23PM

How much will it cost ? I confirm shipping is very expensive for Europe. For example, shipping for a GoSwim cap (that could be put in a letter) is 22$. Fortunately GoSwim DVDs are sold by UK companies and shipping is less. But not the caps !

Sounds great for us living outside of the US + to save from printing, packing, shipping more physical DVDs.

Best (for users) would be a subscription type deal where we can watch & re-watch at will rather than a pay-as-you-go. We tend to watch the best videos many times over.
Or better yet, free access where you tie-in some swim-related ads. I would gladly buy my goggles/suits from a GoSwim ad if I know it helps to support quality videos.

Thanks for the great site.

how long does it take to get a dvd to brazil?
how much does it cost i mean the shipping service?

Responded Jun 04, 2010 05:13PM

Standard international shipping is $22. That's for 1, or for 20 DVDs. We always suggest people order 20 then the shipping is almost non-existant. ;) We're working on better systems. Thanks.
